PAM not working??
Hello. We brought some mites home along with our new pair of lessers! We have tried soaking them and using PAM. We followed the directions to the T four days ago and today they were back. One has them around her eyes now! We washed everything in the enclosures and under the lids and every nook and cranny. I am wondering if PAM isn't working or if they are traveling far enough away to lay their eggs. Any thoughts? I also thought PAM was supposed to last so even if they layed them far enough away and then the baby mites traveled wouldn't they die upon hitting the PAM covered bedding? Any help would be greatly appreciated! This is really putting a damper on things!

I have had great success with PAM. Forget the soaking, get some Reptile Relief to kill the exsisting mites. Then treat the enclosure with PAM and leave him be for 2 weeks. Retreat with RR and PAM and you should be covered. One thing to remember...you will need to treat ALL your reptiles, not just the ones you see mites on.

Re: PAM not working??
Thanks. Luckily they were completely quarentined (different part of the house and seperate tongs etc) so I am not so worried about the rest of our collection. I just thought PAM was supposed to last more than 4 days! It was a few hours of work and I thought we got them all! I will try the reptile relief. I have heard some good things about it! Thanks!

never had a problem with PAM its worked like it was supposed to when a breeder sent me an albino male covered in mites. Follow what Fatboy said and that should take care of it. I followed what he said and have yet to find a mite on any of my snakes. I spray each tub with the Pam once a month to prevent any future outbreaks

NOT the cooking spray. "PAM" is shorthand for a product called "Provent-a-Mite".

Re: PAM not working??
PAM does not kill the eggs, so it may take a week or so for the remaining eggs to hatch, then die. Once they do, though, they will not live long enough to reach maturity and reproduce. It doesn't work immediately, the mites' reproductive cycle must run its course, but PAM really does work and is the best product on the market for mite irradication. Did you wash everything before or after using PAM? You may have washed some of it off, so you may want to spray things down again (following the instructions, of course, removing the snakes and water dishes to another room until the fumes dissipate).
I was alarmed when I found mites days after using PAM when I had mite problems, but they were gone within the first week, and PAM lasts for 30 days (keep using it for a few months, though, just to be sure any hibernating mites don't come back).

Thanks! I guess I didn;t realize it may take a little while for the buggers to be completely gone! I guess I am just impatient and want them gone now!
