young IJ activity question
I have an almost 6month old IJ. I got him on Oct 21st 2010. So i have had him little over a month almost 2 now. But as far as active goes....he seems more like a ball python then a carpet to me. All he does is hide day and night. And rarly even moves from under the papertowel bottom. He eats great. And when i take him out he is active and explorers. But as soon as i put him back in right to hiding he goes and never comes out. I have even checked every hour in the night to find him still in the same spot. My question is for a carpet of this age and that new to me...is that normal? Or is something wrong. He has plenty of hides and wont use them instead goes under the paper towels.
Temps:
Hot:88-93
Cold:78-80
humidity: 80%when misted 30% when dry (mist every morning)
Thanks everyone!

Is the tank in a high traffic area of the house? (Could be stressed out)
Are there any perches? (My IJ, even at 3 years old is still pretty much exclusively arboreal, so is my baby Jag)
Is he off feed?
Maybe he's in shed? (My IJ's shed process is like a month long, and she is either hiding or soaking the entire time)
And it's very possible that he just likes it in there.

Re: young IJ activity question
Yes he has perches. And isnt off feed at all. Been eating everyweek for me with no problems at all. He is in my bedroom which has no one in it during the day and come evening around 10 or 11 ill go in there to go to bed..thats pretty much it. I even have 3 sides of the aquarium blacked out so he can see whats going on except for infront of the cage. Its possible that he is in shed. He last shed Oct.28th. So it should be coming up. It just throws me off that he hides more than my ball python haha.

Well, I think it's a shed.
At any rate, as long as he's eating I'm sure he's ok.

My jungle carpet does the same thing.he is in a low traffic area, eats like a pig. Only times I ever spy him out is right after he eats,or at 3:00 a.m. he will snoop around for a half hour or so,then its back to hiding.

How long have you hard yours? Mine came out finally last night and perched for 6 or so hours roughly....went back to hiding while i slept so not 100% sure. Do you happen to know if yours was raised in a tub before you got it as well?

Im starting to feel its because they arnt used to aquarium life. Mine is also in a 10gal. I notice that he is slowly coming around to coming out. Last night he atleast had his head out checking stuff out. As long as they eat shed and poo everythings good haha.

Re: young IJ activity question
I love IJ's and have good sized group of them. Some of mine are very active and others are very inactive - seemingly never moving. I chalk it up to the individual.... One of my adults is constantly cruising his tub and I mean constantly. His sister is one that hardly ever moves. All are very healthy and range in age from a few months to three years... Now that I'm thinking about it..... My younger ones seem more inactive than the older ones..
