Humidity is going to kill me!!!

It was fine today when the temp was too low and now that i have her warm side between 87-90 ( i know it needs to be warmer but the pet store is too far away to make it to again tonight) the humidity has dropped to 12% >.<

It is going to drive me insane I have tried the aluminum foil and the towel and moving the water dish... nothing..

    any other ideas?

Do you use Cypress mulch? It keeps humidity the best out of all appropriate substrates for ball pythons, especially with glass tanks.

How large is your water dish? I know when i had a 55 gallon i used a 6 quart tub for a water bowl and it helped my humidity a ton.

If you could post a photo of your set-up, it would help us with making suggestions to work out the issues. Here are the steps for posting photos:

To post photos, first, you will need to upload your photos to your Gallery on this website or to a photo hosting website like Photobucket, Flickr, etc...

-Open up the Reply window to the thread you want to post them in.

-Open a separate internet browser window and go to the site where your photos are posted.

-Usually below the photo, you will find some URL links or codes. Look for the one that begins with [IMG] or sometimes it may be listed as "BB Code". Highlight and copy this entire code then paste it in your "Reply" window.

-Click on the "Preview Post" button to see if the photo becomes visible. If it does click "Submit Reply". If not, then double check that you copied the right code or the entire code. The end of the code should be [/IMG].

For the lid, cut a plexi sheet to size to fit the lid of the tank snugly. Clamps of your choice can be used to keep down lid. Drill holes as needed in lid for humidity. Larger water bowl and this should rocket your humidity to the 70ish range no problem.
If I were to do it I would get the metal screen lids and just rip the mesh stuff out and hot glue the plexi to the already sliding/fit for the tank lid.

THAT ^ sounds like a great plan!!! I am also thinking s/he needs a bigger water dish.. I will post pictures later since I dont want to bother her in her "dark hours"

S/he is in a 10 gal tank now and it seems like a bigger water dish would make it crowded but I suppose s/he doesnt need that much space to move about in there does s/he?

Something that you can do in the meantime, to help keep in humidity, is to cover about 3/4 of the screen with aluminum foil. You may need to use a few small pieces of tape to hold it in place against the lid frame. And, you may also need to mist the tank once or twice a day to help keep up the humidity. You can usually find cheap spray bottles at Wal-Mart or the dollar stores...

    35%

last night it sat at 35% not great but atleast s/he wasnt in the desert lol

we covered the whole top except for an air vent and hole for the light with aluminum foil and then moved the water dish closer to being under the light.. if I mist it then it tends to stay where it should be.. bleh more tinkering today

I think I have found the culprit to our humidity issues I dont think there is enough water in the tank because literally as soon as I give it a good misting the humidity jumps to 65% so on the list for today.. a new cave so the hides match, bigger water dish, and insulation for the tank.. oh and the Plexiglas for the lid.. any suggestions on how thick that should be? Poor little thing is probably tired of me poking around the home all the time, at least it seems to have a really layed back temperament.

The ones at lowes incthe wood section should work. Drilling will need to be slow as to not crack the plexi, though a sodering iron might do.
After ur said and done no more misting for you.

Mike has good advice there I have a single lone tank (quarantine tank...) and in the winter the humidly is in the house below 12 percent. I use basically a plexi lid on the tank much like Mike has pointed out and I also use coco coil (eco earth) as a substrate it is great for humidity. I break up the block some and boil water and add boiling water (it sometimes moulds) and mix it up like that (let it cool overnight before using it...) use a little water don't soak it just enough to loosen the block up. It will hold for a few days like that maybe a bit longer. Over the cool side make a big deep mound of it and when the humidly dips again SLOWLY add some water (like a cup) to the pile (NOT over the UTH!!!) it will make a humid pile and that should be good for a while. I hope this helps!
