Max doesn't want to lock, help.

I have been pairing Max and Maggie 3 on 3 off for over a month now. She is now getting ready to shed, when I put Max back in with her she is tail wagging and rolling up on her side for him but he doesn't seem to be interested anymore. Should I try putting my other male in with her or maybe both males in with her at the same time, just keep a close eye on them until one of them shows interest then pull the other one back out?

Have you tried that nasty sperm plug trick? And I personally wouldn't put both males in with her, but in a separate enclosure if you were planning on battling them or something. No need to stress her out while they're shoving each other around.

Males take longer to get in the mood than females.

If needed try cooling him down for a night or 2 and see if that kicks him in.

Female shows interest so the male just not sure yet.

Well, they are at 77F now, with out heat at all, don't know how to cool them down more. Also, not sure of popping a sperm plug from my other male, afraid I would hurt him. I've tried misting them without any luck. They have locked several times over the last month.

I just sprayed mine with some water and the next day they where locked up.

Could she have already ovulated and you missed it? I've been told that once the female ovulates, the male will not breed.

Security issues can come into play if the male feels vulnerable.

Also when cooling if needed its best to keep a hot spot of 88-90 and drop temps to 72-75 at night only and raise temps back in normal in day time.

Once they get in the mood cooling IMO is no longer needed

Give them a little time off. They don't need to lock every 3 days to be successfully bred

Re: Max doesn't want to lock, help.

Give him a couple of weeks off and then try again. As said above they don't need to breed 3 on and 3 off for successful breeding. Another trick that sometimes works is to put the female in with the male, instead of the male in with the female
