Has anyone tried a rack using the Rubbermaid restaurant bus tubs?

I found some Rubbermaid commercial bus tubs today that were to good to pass up. They are as thick if not thicker than a cement tub. They measure about
20 x 15 x 5. If anybody in SE Virginia is interested let me know because there are several hundred more. If anyone else has already tried this please let me know how it worked out. They are real similar to these.

A rat/mouse breeder i know uses similar bus tubs for his mice. He runs 1.12 in them.

Yep we use a similar style in our ray racks the only Problem we've Seen is the raised areas in the bottom allow the rats to chew on them. So just keep an eye on the bottoms

I use these for my mealworms. Well the taller ones. Their an inch shorter in each dimension but their 3.19 each or 2.66 each if you buy 12. I bought 12 at a time to get the discount. Seriously $11.50 each on ebay or $3.19 each at the most.

The ribs on the bottom of the tubs present a bit of a problem. Like others have said they give the rats a point at which to start chewing on the tubs. They will probably work for a while, but in the end my guess is that you will have chew out problems.

I paid 1.20 each for the tubs. I looked at the ribs but there is not much for them to get a hold of and it's pretty thick. I'll keep an eye on the bottoms during cleaning. If they work out OK I'll go back and buy extras just in case. They had several hundred left after I took 50.

I seriously doubt you'd have a chew out.

I do think, however, those are too short. My rats are easily sitting at 4 inches high.

My the tubs my buddy have do not have ribbed bottoms. They are flat.

Don't do it. Especially if you're building a rack around them....
Drop the $5.49 each for the cement tubs, the good ones...not the flimsy ones.
