    cheap scales?

I have been trying to find some threads on weight vs age of baby ball pythons, but cant seem to find what im looking for.

I weighed my bp today but the weight seemed very high for his age and size. I brought the digital scales on the cheap online, dont think they are very good so was wondering to get some opinions.

    Heres the vitals.

Henry is: approx 10 weeks old, and 18 inches (seems quite slender to me)

The weigh in came out at 900 grams!

    Rubbish scales or possible weight?

    Thanks

    Matt

If he is only 10 weeks old, I dont think there is any way it weighs 900g, think your scale is waaaay off. I have a juvenile bp, a few months old and she weighs around 200g, and she gets fed every 5 days.

Sounds like you need to zero out the scale after putting on the tub or container.

If you want a good scale that will last you, get a postal scale or get a scale from ReptileBasics.com that measures by 1 grams increments and includes a container. Usually run around $30-50.

I got my postal scale on Craigslist and it can weigh up to 50 pounds haha! Down side is it only goes by 5 gram increments. So for smaller snakes i use a jewelry scale that only measures up to 100 grams.

This is the scale I use from Reptile basics. It works great and very user friendly for $38 you can't go wrong.

    Re: cheap scales?

I agree with Steveboos, you need to try and zero out the scale "After" you put your container the snake goes in on the scale. If you have already done that though, and you get the same reading. I'd just get another scale.

I personally use a pretty decent cooking scale with an LCD screen, around $40-60. It measures all the way down to a tenth of a gram. It's always been super accurate and reliable.

    Re: cheap scales?

your scale has a "tare" feature which will zero it. Use that and it will give you accurate readings. Hit Tare with nothing on the scale, it will say "0.00". Put your weighing container down, it will now say how much the container weighs. Tare again. NOW you can put your snake in the container for an accurate weight.

I have 2 scales, one i bought at target, another on ebay. They are both fantastic.

    Re: cheap scales?

    Thanks for your input.

I thought it was such a large weight for a little guy.

I did tare the scales before i put him in so they are very inaccurate, so you do really get waht you pay for!

Time to buy some new scales.

    Thanks matt
