Switched from Lamp to UTH.. Need nome reassurance

So I just adopted a BP from a guy that was keeping the 2 1/2 foot snake in a 10g tank and was using a heat lamp. The poor little guy was dried out, confined and under feed.. I got him, switched him out to a sterilite tub and got a UTH for him, but heres the problem.. He/she/it still lays on top of his log hide where the lamp used to be focused, the UTH is under the log he is laying on.. Im sure he will figure it out soon enough, but for a whole day he was been sitting there and I cant help but worry a bit.. Someone tell me to calm down and that he will figure it out... Thanks PS. First post on .net , I just made the switch from a corn to a BP . I always wanted a BP but ended up with a Corn for the last year and a half (now off to the breeders)

How are you regulating the heater? How are you measuring the temps?

If the temps aren't too hot then I would give him a smaller hide.

He's on top on the hide.. The hide is the right size... He's on top, that's what I'm worried about. I'm concerned that hes not getting that the light is not coming back and the heat is coming from the UTH from now on.

Marbles lies on top of his hide a lot. He eats well, poops well, sheds well, and seems happy to be handled. I figure he's happy on top of his hide & it's all good. Make sure he has a good environment, feed him well & let him do the thermoregulating. As long as you are offering a temp gradient in the right range, and I am sure you are, he can figure it out.
    Blessed be, Betsy

Have some faith. Give it some time. They'll figure it out.

    Good luck.

It will take him a little while to figure it out, but trust me he will.

I got a big breeder female at a show a while back, she'd been on newspaper her whole life but I use aspen. She was freaked out at first, she refused a hide so she just paced and paced and tried to lift as much of her body off the aspen as she could.

That lasted two weeks, then she got over it. Now she has fun burrowing around in the aspen like a Sand Boa.
