    pest control and ball pythons???

so I just got a letter from my property manager saying that they are coming tomorrow to spray the entire property because tenants have been complaining of spiders and bugs. the letter says that the spray is completely safe to humans and "pets" anyone have any experience with this?...should I be concerned for my snake collection? I'm thinking if we use prevent-a -mite and its relatively safe there shouldn't be an issue but I'm still worried

Gosh, I don't know. They say a lot of stuff is "pet-safe", but then sometimes you hear horror stories of poisoned pets anyway. And snakes can absorb a lot of nasty stuff through their scales.

How many animals are we talking about?

is it like a spray or they bombing the hosue or what exactly are they doing? If its a poison cloud type, I would make them spray one room, let the crap settle, then move all the snakes to that room. so they can spray the snake room. you don't want them breathing anything but air.

I have 18 balls 3 red eared sliders and a leopard gecko. I wish I had more than 1 day notice!..and I live in northern new hampshire, its not like I can just move my racks outside this time of year. my property manager is pretty cool though, maybe I'll explain to her the situation and ask her not to spray near the animals. the only place we've had spiders is in the bathroom. and personally I don't mind them.

I'd be sorely tempted to bag them up for an afternoon and take them to a friend's house. But if that's not feasible, or risky for some reason, I'd move the animals to a small room and leave a sign on the door asking them not to spray in there.

When i had my house sprayed in summer for spiders they said its possible to be toxic to reptiles. There for they didnt spray the side of house the snakes were on. I would tell them to do the same for you.

When I get the condo sprayed, they do everything but the reptile room.

thanks for all the advice, I'll see what they say when they get here. like I said the only place we have spiders is in the bathroom. I'll see if they'll just spray in there.

IF your getting the inside of your house sprayed you have every right by law to deny them entrance due to pets. Not to mention the chemicals are toxic and you have every right to not want that in contact to your living quarters.

You can use a Can of PAM and that will kills spiders just as fast and wont harm your pets.

Re: pest control and ball pythons???

Most pest control sprays are the residual kind meant for roaches, water bugs, etc. They spray a wet liquid in which when the water evaporates the poison is left in a very fine powder form, that bugs will hopefully walk across. Not much chance of it hurting your snake unless your snake comes into direct contact with the residue left behind from the spray. That being said this residue can stay active for MONTHS!!! And anything you, your cloths, (insert what ever item here) touch with that residue can transfer to you and can be passed on to your snake. We can touch it and never know, as its in such small amounts to us that it wont harm us. I personally wouldn’t let them spray unless it’s a problem for you or your family.
