    Heat Tape Temp?

well during summer when i got almost all my ball pythons i did not use any heat cause the house was really hot around 87 to 90 but now its starting to get colder and ill will be ordering heat tape soon. i have had a helix for about 2 months now brand new opened it today got my cousin to let me borrow a extra strip he had and i was trying to figure how its going to be when i get mine so i set everything up put the temp to 90 put the probe under the a tub and put a temp probe i had in the tub i was wondering if the tape would be warm to the touch and should my snakes be cold or warm to the touch thanks

    Re: Heat Tape Temp?

your probe from the helix should be secure to the heat tape, where it will not be knocked off. if it gets knock off of the tape, the temps could go very high and be very bad for the snake ending in injury or death. so securing it is very important. I recommend not mounting it to the tape that's under the tub. but to the side where the tub doesn't come into contact with it.the hot spot inside the tub, right above where the heat tape is, should be around 88 to 92 degrees (my opinion) others might have their temps slightly different. and the reading on your thermostat will most likely be different than the hot spot inside the tub. so you need away to measure it inside the tub. hope this helps you, don
