Just wondering...=)
Hey all! I'm not worried or anything about this, but I'm just kinda curious about why he's doing it, and if other BPs do it :3
For the past week or so, my four month old BP, Riddle, has been wrapping himself around his water dish and then once in awhile, soaks his tail for awhile. He'll stay like that for hours. It's ceramic, so it's cool to the touch. I'm just sorta curious if anyone else's BPs do this, or if my little guy is just being weird, lol.
Another thing he does, is when he goes into his hide, he leaves about four to five inches of his tail sticking out. I know BPs like to feel safe and snug, and I can't imagine how leaving his tail out of the hide makes him feel safe. It seems like it would make him more vulnerable, you know? The hide fits him perfectly (because he has been all the way in it before, and there's a little bit of room to spare, even) so I was wondering, again...if anyone knows why he would do this.
Maybe I just have one weird BP XD
Oh...the temps are 93 hot side and 81 cool side, and I have newspaper substrate. The humidity is around 55%. He's in a 15qt rubbermaid container.

In a rubbermaid tub he probably cannot see outside of the tub very well, so he probably feels secure anyway because it is like living inside of a cave in the first place. He is just comfortable and feels secure enough to leave his tail hanging out, mine will do this once and awhile as well, and my BP also enjoys soaking his butt in the water dish, lol.

What are you measuring temps with? It sounds like your warm side is too warm! You need to measure with a digital thermometer with a probe and have the probe directly on the heat! The uth should be 90-92 degrees!

Seeya - I'm measuring the temps with a digital thermometer (the one with a probe, like everyone recommends) and my thermostat probe/whatever you want to call that is between my UTH and the tub. I'm measuring the temp on top of the newspaper with a temp gun (and I've done it under, but since there isn't much newspaper the temp didn't change). And I always heard 90-94 was perfect for hot spot...

90-92 is best for the hot spot IMO 94 is pushing too hot but acceptable as long as you know it doesn't go up too much higher.
I try to not go over 95.
I have males and females that will wrap their water bowls, it's just one of those things they do in the winter no matter how big or small or what sex they are.

So for a tank using reptibark... should the probe be below the tank? Or inside the tank buried under the substrate?
And ultimately, is the temperature of the the heater what's important? Or the surface temperature of the substrate(Temp probe vs Temp gun)?
