Red face Has anyone ever shortened the probe wire of an accurite digital thermometer?

The ten foot wire is just too long for my sweaterbox tubs. I have tried tucking it under the substrate and wrapping it around the thermometer stand but it is cumbersome. Has anyone ever successfully cut and reattached the wire making it much shorter? Thanks in advance!

You can, I have not done it, but the length is simply for convenience since their original intent is to be placed outside of a home.

I'll make a tutorial if you want me too. Won't be able to get to it until this weekend though.

I have my base raised on a small tuperware just at the top of the substrate with a small hole cut in it to run the wire through. all the extra wine is bundled tightly underneath it. It has worked out nicely so far.

I use the air holes in my tub to feed the wire outside the tub and back in on the opposite side where the heating pad is. The bulk of the wire is garbage tied outside of the tub on the back side.

I actually just had to do this last week. I had an over curious rat chew through the small amount of exposed cord that was in the tank. It's not terribly difficult. Cut out the excess, twist the two ends together to make sure they still pick up the "outdoor" temperature and use some heat shrink tubing. Works like a charm. Oh and the rat never saw it coming after his malicious attempt at escape. Nicodemus pwn'd him.... Lol
