    Is this a problem?

My boyfriend just called me and told me about a weird experience he had with his snake and he's not sure whether to worry or not. He fed the snake quite a big rat, bigger than usual, and he said her mouth widened more than it ever has and then didn't quite close properly. It's been two days and it looks better now, but still not perfect. He picked the snake up and says one drop of yellow slime came from her mouth. It sounds like an RI symptom to me, but he says she isn't making clicking/wheezing noises and hasn't dripped before or since. She (obviously) hasn't stopped eating either.

Could the mucus have been caused by the feed? Is it likely to be an RI?

    Re: Is this a problem?

    Hi,

It's possible but an RI doesn't normally make the mouth look wierd - though they will open mouth breathe on occasion.

It might be worthwhile having a look inside her mouth to rule out mouthrot or bedding causing irritation?

Tell him to look for red spots or yellow cheesy looking deposits etc or bits of loose bedding caught in the mouth.

    Hopefully he won't find anything.
