I have heard this also and my opinion is that this method is a waste of time and effort. Along with the "olive oil" method and seven dust.

I have a friend that got mites. I went to his place and used the products I always use and BAM no more mites! He lets people bring their animals into his room all the time so guess what he gets mites again and I tell him do what I did last time and you will get rid of them. I don't know if he just plain doesn't believe me (even though it worked before) or if he doesn't want to spend the money. All I know is I won't be back to his place until the mites are gone.

If you buy the proper products and use them correctly you will not have issues with mites.

Nix/Rid lice treatment for humans is hands-down he best treatment!!

Mix 1 2oz. bottle to 1 gallon of distilled water and spray everything -- floor, rack, tubs, substrate, and ENTIRE snake. Repeat once after a month and they will be gone.

I think the Seven's dust works, husband used it to kill the mites that a snake he had at the time. Treated bedding once and few days later they were completely gone. Not sure about the soaps, as of yet we haven't had a problem with them in over 4 years. If similar in structure to fleas, Dawn works good on them since it eats through the body walls.

Did you treat the snake with the seven's dust too? Or just the bedding and stuff? I live with my g-parents and they are on a far and we use sevens dust on our chickens and stuff, but never thought of using in on the snakes.

Found this post again. ^.^ Just the bedding had the seven's dust mixed in it. I'm not sure if he treated the snake with anything. Between internship then college issues my brain was scrambled so I don't remember much else.

Why is it so difficult to go out and buy a can of PAM?

You're probably going to end up spending more money on that dust stuff then you would on the Prevent-A-Mite, when PAM is still the only reptile safe and best tested solution for getting rid of mites.

betadine baths are also worthless. It'll drown a few mites on the snake and probably make the snake feel a little better, but the only way to get rid of a mite problem is to treat the snakes cage with poisons that kill mites.

    Re: Palmolive Mite treatment????

Well i clean the tub on a daily basis completely rinse with super hot water and then new paper towel, clean the water bowl. And inspect for mites on the snake and so far i found 4 mites total and haven't seen any in a while. That's the good thing about the tub it can be totally sterilized every day so any mites i do see are removed but i haven't seen any in about 2 weeks. What do you guys think? still get the Prevent a Mite? or is this method good. BTW its the only snake in the entire house because its in quarantine at a friends house.
