Mouse Rack Tubs
Anyone have suggestions for good tubs for mouse racks now that Van Ness has gone and made their pans more "stylish"?

They make the litter pans with the flat edges.
You can order them a bunch of places. I think that the "linens and things" website has them cheapest.
These are great for running mice.

In fact, if you leave only 2" between levels you can easily run those tubs 10 levels high with no problems. That means that you can run 40 female mice in a foot print of about 21" x 16".

I got some at the Dollar General for a $1.25 each. They're flat but have a slit "curviness" to them. They slide just fine though in my rack I built.
Not sure of the dimensions, pretty sure they're the size recommended in a tut here though. I'm only running 1.2 per pan though.
(I seem to overuse the word "though" for some reason... sorry)

the Petmate ones fit just fine in my rack that was made for Van Ness ones.
Im paying 1.99-2.99 for them as they are sturdier than Van Ness

Re: Mouse Rack Tubs
Where is a good place to get those tubs ?
I am going to build a mouse rack but having trouble finding a cost effective tub that is shallow enough to hold the food on the mesh above it. Seems to me that I am seeing people use tubs that are 5-6+inches deep but I am confused as to how the mice are getting food and water from above. Thanks for your time and an help would be greatly appreciated

20 1/4" long x 13 5/8" wide x 3 1/2" tall.
You can build your rack 10 levels high with these tubs and it will allow you to run 40 female mice.
Hopefully this answers your question.

Reason: hotlinking I'm afraid but a link to it is fine ;-)

Thanks for your response and link! Seems that the lip is pretty small. Is it big enough to hold sturdy on the rail?

Just make sure that you build your rack so that there isn't much room on either side of the tub when you slide it in and out. The tubs will be fine. A lot of people use Petmate litter pans for breeding rodents. If you wonder how well they will hold just go to youtube and look up Ralph Davis rat barn. You will see how they hold LOL.
