Probe placement on Radiant Heat Panel????

I'm in the finishing stages of a 6x2x2 wooden cage for my female BCI. It's come time to choose the heat source. The snake room sits about 82-84 degrees at all times. I found Kane heat mats that are made for livestock sometimes they're called pig blankets I believe. They are waterproof and meant ot be placed inside the cage. I've also considered a Radiant Heat Panel. I can't decide between the two. My question is where do you place the probe on either since they are inside the enclosure it seems you'd want to steer clear of any sort of tape.

I went through the back of the cage and just have the probe sticking through the wood like an inch, for a RHP. im assuming the kane mat is going to be on the ground for it to lay on? I would lay the probe right on the mat.

Thanks for the advice. I decided on an ultrtherm heat mat. Cheaper than the kane and it's encased in polyurethane so it's easy to clean. How do you like using radiant heat? Is it easy to keep an nice even gradiant?

Re: Probe placement on Radiant Heat Panel????

Some people I talked to about the probe placement suggested screwing a wire clamp to the enclosure to hold the probe in place a few inches below the heat panel. I may try that when I upgrade to permanent enclosures...

radient heat is just as easy as any other heat source, keeping a temp gradient has more to do with how big the cage is, the air flow, temp of the room its in. but yes i do like the RHPs, I will be using radiant heat in all my non-rack cages.
