Re: breaking in
If I had my choice I would rather purchase bp's with some growth, hatchlings or neonates can be a PIA at times, if you have other reptiles I would encourage you to quarentine much longer than a week. Each snake has its own personality, if your afraid of getting struck at or bit maybe try another hobby.

Re: breaking in
Most balls are docile so you should be okay with regular handling. Don't handle until it starts eating for you!

Re: breaking in
I got my BP a few months ago and it was 'allegedly' a year and half old. She is super tame and enjoys guests coming by to check her out also. I say allegedly because she is already 41 inches long, maybe I don't know much about female growth rate

Re: breaking in
I have found my babies out of the egg can be a bit nippy, but I have yet had an older (say over 4 months (if that) be nippy. I usually just give them time to settle down and leave them alone for a while and I let them bite me, shoot it doesn't hurt at all. They find out that it makes no difference to me it is pointless to bite. However with that being said if you take it slow you should have no problems. BP's are a very easy snake to get used to handling
