Congratulation on the three eggs, glad it worked out! Snakes do have ears by the way, just no external ear opening--so talk away and feel less crazy.

    Cheers,

R.I.P. Steve, I'll miss you more than you could have ever known. I love you.

    Angry Re: Kona!

Hi Jewskin, glad everything is turning out great.

I have an emergency incubator that I used for my eggs. This is how I made them:
    1. I bought a styrofoam cooler from the grocery. It was cheap.
    2. I bought a plastic storage container that is deep and wide enough to hold about 3 inches of substrate plus the eggs and that will fit in the cooler. I found a clear one for 99 cents which was perfect coz I can see the eggs through the container.
    3. I got vermiculite from Lowes. Make sure it doesn't have fertilizer.
    4. I got a UTH for 10-20 gallon tanks.
    5. I got 5 same-sized Gatorade bottles that fits snug on the bottom of the cooler. My cooler fit 5 perfectly tight so they don't move.
    6. I got a small plexiglass (polycarbonate) sheet from Lowes to fit the bottom of the tank. You can use a piece of plywood too.

Ok, I laid the plexi on the bottom of the cooler then laid the UTH on top of that. I didn't peel off the sticker so I can use the UTH somewhere else after I'm done incubating. Then I filled the bottles with water and laid them on top of the UTH. Then I got enough vermiculite to cover about 3 inches of the storage container and then added water enough to moisten the vermiculite so that I can squeeze it into a ball and it stays like that but that it doesn't drip water when squeezed. Some guys here use that white lighting grate on top of the verm just to make sure the eggs dont get sopping wet.

Run a thermostat for the UTH and set the probe on the UTH. Run an accurite thermometer probe right on top of the vermiculite and put the box on top of the water bottles. Let the temperature stabilize to 88-89 degrees.

Put the eggs in the box and cover the box with press and seal then put the lid on. It's ok if you don't have air holes. Humidity should be close to 100 this way and condensation will not form on the press and seal that could rain on the eggs.

That's pretty much it. Just open the box every 2-3 days after that.

Now, I added a feature to my cooler. I cut a rectangular opening on the lid and glued a plexi sheet on it so I can see inside the egg box without opening the incubator. I found myself opening the thing every 15 minutes which made the temps swing because the eggs were already cut when I moved them to the incubator.

    Hope this helps!

    Re: Kona!

    Hey again!!

    Glad they came out alright!!!

Sounds like you had a crazy night, but at least all turned out well. Hey why not just go to farm feed store, or tractor supply and buy a chicken egg incubator? There 50 bucks and they have a thermostat to control the heat. Worked out great for me. I ended up buying two of them actually...I just don't like worrying lol. Although I am going to make one over the course of this next year as I intend on have a few more clutches. One incubator is good for two clutches I found. Just an idea...

By the way, Kona is quite a pretty girl. Hopefully you get some funky looking babies(and I mean that in a good way lol)!
