Re: Difference between ad and add

Oh, I am with you on all of these. The deterioration of written English drives me insane.

You know what I hate more than any misspelling or grammar error? TOTAL LACK OF PUNCTUATION.
No capital letters. No commas. No periods. It's just one long sentence, all run together, without end.
"Txt-Spk" makes me feel like I'm reading something written by the mentally retarded. I wouldn't mind so much if they actually WERE mentally slow.

In my opinion, if you are over 13 years of age, you should have a basic grasp of punctuation and reasonable spelling skills. If you do not, you'd better have an excuse for it, such as an IQ of 80, being a non-native speaker of English, or growing up without benefit of any schooling.

People are using a medium that requires them to write. They apparently have no shame when it comes to displaying their ignorance of basic writing skills.

I don't mind the occasional misspelling, or messed up grammar, particularly when it's one of the more difficult or obscure rules, such as never using 'but' at the beginning of a sentence. It's all right when people write the way they speak. It's not OK to be so butt-ignorant of writing basics that no one can understand what you're posting...and then to be defensive of it, rather than embarrassed! Unless you have a learning disability, you have NO excuse. You're perfectly capable of learning these things NOW, if you haven't bothered to learn it before.

I feel strongly that those who insist on inflicting their horrible writing skills on others without making any attempt to improve them are being horrendously rude. At what point did it become ok to type like a chimpanzee, and expect others to wade through it, understand it, and respond as though you were an intelligent human? If you want to communicate with others, then you need to make the effort to be understood, not force others to labor hard to grasp your meaning.

If it isn't worth your time to learn to communicate effectively, it's certainly not worth anyone else's to read what you have to say.

Sorry about that...bit of pent up frustration, there.

    Why Punctuation Matters

    Why Punctuation Matters:

    Dear John:
I want a man who knows what love is all about. You are generous, kind, thoughtful. People who are not like you admit to being useless and inferior. You have ruined me for other men. I yearn for you. I have no feelings whatsoever when we're apart. I can be forever happy--will you let me be yours?
    Jane

    Yours,
