Re: So sick of job hunting

[QUOTE=Swingline0.0.1;1386051]I am been laid off work for a year now. I am a Phlebotomist, and a culinary school graduate. Next year after I finish my B'S in Psychology I am going to graduate school. I have filled out and sent my resume to over 100 jobs. I am overqualified for most jobs, they say, or don't ever even take my calls. If there are 200 other people who also sent in apps and resumes, then I can only hope I hake a better impression than the next guy. (Or girl in my case)[/QUOTE

I've been a nursing assistant for 7 years. 2 years ago I took a phlebotomy certifficate program because I've been burnt out on the nursing thing...haven't been able to find a job in phlebotomy yet!..and I've applied. wish I could get all my sticks in to sit for the test although its not required in most states as of yet but probably will be over the next few years...it would be a step up for me although the pay is the same...I'd rather be drawing tubes than trying to change crappy diapers on 200 lb+ people as they're calling you names and trying to punch and kick you...

if anyone needs a job take an lna/cna class. you'll have no problem finding a job...turnaround rate is very high..I've been at my current job for a year and I've seen so many people come and go in unreal!...and the job application process has been quite easy...walk in ask for an app...walk out with your schedule in hand...its happened to me several times!

Sorry for hijacking your thread dude. Yeah, job hunting stinks.
Well I don't have a college degree. I do have a house and a car.
Personally I wouldn't trade my house and cars for the college degree. But we all have different priorities. Walking around with a degree and no where to live I would be another homeless guy.

Honestly, If I was a young person trying to find a job in this economy I would probably join the military. I in fact did that when I was a young guy with no prospects.

Not as easy to get in the military.... if anyone screwed up anywhere, its almost impossible to get a waiver for it.

Before I was a phlebotomist I was CNA on a surgical floor, so I know all about changing diapers. I do want to say that all those people who will kick you as a CNA will do the same if not worse sometimes when you have to wake them up at 3am with a needle! You will make more money, but it is still hard sometimes to deal with being abused. I have decided all nursing/clinical work ends in getting beat up sometimes!

OP, just keep trucking man. In this economic environment, you've just got to keep your head up and spamming your resume/applications. Something WILL come along. I promise.

I fully understand how much it sucks right now though. I graduated from a fantastic school with a degree in finance and economics and I only recently took a job which ended up being leaps and bounds better than I'd imagined. You'll find something. Just keep your head up and try not to get discouraged.

The job hunt is horrible, I definetly know what you mean. Thats why you gotta think more school, doing your own thing, or both, if your that type of person. There are many services that only require low costs to start up and really require a go-getter type of attitude. Just for example, pressure cleaning. If you dont have enough money to start something up you can rent the equipment as the jobs come to save money. Another good thing about a service like this, and there are many others, is that you can be extremely competitive with your rates. This is the best time for these services to boom because many people dont have jobs, but they still need to maintain and take care of there things.Hope this helps a bit. Good luck on your hunt and remember when there is a will there is a way.

Lol I hear some of this and I have to laugh. For some of us the military isnt an option. I tryd and need waivers they arnt giving right now. I was laid off aug of last year and my unemployment ran out. Im tryn to get back into school to finish out my paramedic dagree. But you guys who are complaining about the old guy you deal with. I had to go back to bouncing even tho I really didnt want to. To me bouncing is like flipping burgers but you make less and get hit. Im 5'8'' 150 lbs and CRIPPLED (6lbs of metal in my leg and the knee on my other leg is blown out) So, wanna tarde jobs lol.

Re: So sick of job hunting

I was out of a job from Dec 08 to just two weeks ago. I picked up babysitting for a friend for a miniscule amount of money and was also on unemployment. I applied everywhere! Followed up like a maniac. Unfortunatly people just aren't hiring... It sucks. I got my current (on call) job only because my BF works for the company and he was able to give me a heads up on the job. Having a good referral from one of their employees didn't hurt at all

I contemplated going to school. The community college around here is packed and the waiting list for courses are packed as well. I was checking out a vocational school... But paying $25,000 to make $9.00 just does not compute. People are raised to believe that if you go to school you're going to get a job. That's not the case anymore.

Re: So sick of job hunting

i work at mc donalds and they are hiring all over the country. Just go to mcstate.com. Sure its not the best pay but at least its something for now. I do hate it when people go get money and complain because they dont enuf to get more clothes that they need. I mean my brother spends all him $ on shoes and has 13 pairs. I think that is crazy. But then again i use my money on bps so we all have diffrent intrests but yea go to mcstate.com all call a couple of your local mc Donald's. Good luck
