Black snakes?

I'll chime with over the top black snakes...Indigo's and Boelen's are my top picks...But that's for me...

I would love an indigo. I wouldent even know where to get one though.

Well then, ringnecks are cute too! And inexpensive!!! Although the ones I've found locally have better color than the ones I see periodically on kingsnake.

what about a dark sand boa.... sure it might not be all black, but to be honest he is 5, I think a super cool snake is better than a cool color

Not all mexican blacks are nippy. Mine is great, has never tried to bite. Has musked though but gets over that pretty quick. If you get one as a baby and get it used to handling it should be fine. Just take time to choose the right one. Handle it before you purhase to get a feel for its personality. If its a nervous snake then it will likely rattle its tail musk and possibly strike. If its not nervous then it will most likely not do any of the above. Either way it may be a little flighty as these snakes usually are, they like to move.
