i covered 2/3 of the screen on top with foil and have never seen my humidity drop below 50% (might help being from san diego but still)

**edit** ive also read that putting the water dish over the under tank heater will help with humidity levels just make sure u refill it everyday

i think they mean not to have any water ever come in contact with the UTH not that water cant be inside the tank above it

again i could be wrong but the extra water evaporation seems to help with humidity

No, they mean don't put the water in the hot end of the tank or over the UTH. This is just a precautionary measure because without a thermostat, the glass underneath is hot and if the water spills on it, it can cause the glass to crack. Kinda like when you put an ice cube in warm soda you can hear that little "CRACK" when it begins to melt.

Couple older pics from when I got my first ball....a few lessons learned were (1) that it's hard to keep humidity up in a tank and (2) when you buy a ball from Petco you're actually just buying a bunch of mites...they throw the snake in for free...

    They're all in racks now...

    Lucifer Sam, Siam cat...
    Always sitting by your side,
    Always by your side...
    That cat's something I can't explain...
