    Another thing to keep in mind--hatchlings don't have the reserves to live for months without eating the way larger animals do. If they don't eat within 3 weeks of their first shed, I assist-feed them. They need to be assist-fed before they become thin and weaken. If they are strong when they are assist-fed, they can withstand the process better. It is stressful.

    Good point. For an older snake 3 months off food is no big deal. The fact that it was a hatchling is why it became an issue and turned to passing.
