Re: Babies Are On the Way!

Well, looks like I have 3 normals. One that I thought was anery turns out has some red on his head and little bits on his body. He came out of the egg box covered, and I mean covered in vermiculite, so I couldn't tell at first. But he is a normal. So that is

    0.0.2 Snow
    0.0.1 Anery
    0.0.3 Normal
0.0.1 Amel (poked his head out and is definitely an amel)
0.0.1 mystery (still has not split his egg)

I'll get some pictures of what has hatched out so far. Just have to run downstairs for the camera.

And I wanted to say a thankyou to all of you who have helped me with this.

Oh and how soon can I sex them?

All but 1 baby are out. They are beautiful! I got individual shots of all but the one. The one that was holding out on us is a snow.

    Snow -first to hatch out.

Great clutch! And those normals will color up a lot after a shed or two; I can see why they were throwing you a curve ball at first.

I've found that, at least for me, its easier to wait until after they shed. I used to sex right out of the egg, but always ended up "female" heavy. When I'd resex after their 1st shed, I'd get more normal ratios. I suspect that maybe the skin that's getting ready to shed somehow can make it trickier for the hemipenes to pop out?

Or maybe it's all in my head that it's easier once they've shed. Regardless, I just wait until after they shed before I try to sex them. Just my 2¢.

Re: Babies Are On the Way!

How do you sex something that tiny? I'm afraid I'm going to hurt them! They are so little! I'm going to wait till after they've had their first shed and their first meal and then I know someone who is going to show me how to pop hatchling corns.

How long does it usually take them to hatch? A week or so? I'm loving these little guys. I can't wait until they take their first pinky! And thanks to everyone!

Re: Babies Are On the Way!

They're easy to pop. If you can do bps, then you can do corns. Biggest mistake is starting too close to the cloaca, make sure you start far enough down so you can get them to pop.

And if you're referring to any unhatched eggs, I give them a week, and if they haven't hatched, I cut them open to see what went wrong. Usually its DIE (dead in egg) and/or severely deformed. If they're not pipped within 48 hours, usually not a good sign.

Re: Babies Are On the Way!

*smacks forehead* sorry I've been going on very little sleep these past few days so my brain is a little fried.

I meant shed, not hatch. Of course, as soon as I ask, I check on them today and a few have blue-ish eyes and are looking like they are going into blue.
