Incubator Idea
I was talking to my dad about ideas for an incubator and he thought up an idea using 2 plastic containers. The 1st container you fill the bottom full of water (1-2"), Drill holes in the bottom of the 2nd container then place it inside the first container. Use a heat pad under the containers. With the 2nd container inside the 1st container, there is around a 2" gap in the bottom which the water will sit and be under the eggs but wont be touching and the holes in the 2nd container will allow for the humid air to rise into the area where the eggs are being kept. Using a thermostat on the heat pad and placing the probe in the egg container, Would this setup work? It seems incredibly simple.

I don't think that an under the tank heat mat would work, they don't get as hot as most heating devices, possibly heat tape though. Heat tape gets much hotter than under the tank heat mats, so that would probably be a better choice.

Re: Incubator Idea
Now obviously your "heat mat" idea is flawed since you need consistent temps around 88-89 for your eggs to hatch.
This is no substrate. These are my eggs.

Re: Incubator Idea
It sounds like a design for substrateless incubation--it's really easier to use a fluorescent light plastic grid panel than a container with holes in it, though. I would be concerned about condensation in the second container.
I would also place the thermostat probe outside of the egg box, and a thermometer inside of it--adjust the thermostat to get the right temps on the interior thermometer. There will be more fluctuations outside of the box than inside.
2Kdime, are you incubating a slug, there, lol?
