Don Juan has passed...

I'm debating if I want a necropsy done or not. I don't know if he just ingested too much bedding or became over-heated or what. But he never had the sunken-in-eyeballs look. He still looked well-fed and normal.

But at least I could give him a home away from screaming kids tapping on the glass at the store.

Thanks for all the help everybody and I appreciate it. He's rekindled my crestie love, so there may be some more for me in the future. RIP little buddy.

I had the same thing happen to my male dalmation. He took a dive fom the top of his aquarium for a cricket and filled his mouth with coco fiber.
Here's what I did...
I had a spare 10 gallon laying around I filled about an inch or two with water. Then I put him and splashed water all inside his mouth until most of it came out and he could finally close his mouth.
During his bath time (keep your hand in with it so he won't freak out and try to climb the glass) I changed all substrate to paper towel. Then I went and got the extra virgin olive oil from the kitchen cupboard and put it drop by drop on his nose while he licked it off. I fed him about a 1/4 of a teaspoon of olive oil.

That was 2 years ago. He's still alive and perfectly healthy.

I'm really sorry He passed :-(. But it sounds like he was impacted. I am not a vet and I did this only because I was very worried.

What is everyone elses opinions on what I did?

I don't necessarily think he was impacted--there were no indications given that that was the case. One mouthful of coco fiber that was cleaned out of the mouth would not have impacted and killed the gecko in one day's time. An impacted gecko will not pass waste for at least several days time, will become bloated and have a hard belly. Coco fiber like Bed-A-Beast doesn't generally have large chunks of substrate either--a little of it ingested by an adult should not have a negative affect.

I don't think it's necessary to treat for impaction after one mouthful of fine substrate that was immediately cleaned out. 1/4 teaspoon of olive oil seems like a lot for one gecko, but I guess it would sure clean things out. I'd just keep an eye on the gecko if it happened, and make sure it continued to pass waste as normal. If it ingested a large chunk of substrate, like a piece of bark or something, that would be much more concerning.

Aww..I was thrilled to see the chunky little dude until I read this, thats so sad, he was a cutie. Sorry for your loss.
I quit using coco bedding all together, I looked into the enclosure to see her flopping around like a fish out of water...only ALOT worse, it scared the crap out of me, but then I seen her mouth was full of the stuff, it happened again the next time I got Crickets so I dumped it out that night and changed to the reptile carpet, best thing I ever did. I will never use that stuff again.
