    Incubator is done... few questions.

Think I finally finished the incubator, and it's messy but functional - not to mention, it was free aside from the thermostat. Temperatures are great after adding a second flexwatt, but I'm not really sure where to measure temps? I have one thermometer with a probe placed under the tub, and another w/ sensor placed in the front & back. Where do you all put the thermometers and probes? I'm getting big variations with my temp gun, from 100+ on the flexwatt to 89-90 in the middle. And would you trust a ReptiTemp 500R to keep things stable, or should I swap it with the Herpstat from my rack? The room itself is fairly stable, since our outside temperatures here don't vary much (55-65 ALL year).

I also made an egg tub for Mona, filled it with Hatch-rite, and placed it in the incubator for a test-run... that Hatch-rite stuff is awesome, and the humidity is reading 100. I didn't have any Press-and-Seal, so I just used regular glad-wrap. Is that okay, or do I need to buy the other stuff? And to refresh my memory, is it best to go without any holes in the tub? Here are some photos, and please tell me if anything looks off. Just ignore the temp & humidity readings, since I took the photos before everything had settled.

Couldn't drill another hole, so I just ran the second flexwatt under the door... still seems to close tightly.

That looks pretty good, I also just run the flexwat cord under the door. Just let it run and keep a eye on the temps before you put any eggs in it

Re: Incubator is done... few questions.

I used a repti-temp 500R on my inc last year and got away with it, but went and got a herpstat for this year.
I was constantly watching and adjusting the repti-temp to keep "somewhat" stable temps.

I placed the t-stat probe behind the flexwatt, some people hang the probe in the middle of the inc in the air.

The only temperature I am concerned with is in the tub, so the only thermometer probe I use is in the tub.

I also used hatchrite last year and learned that it quickly dries out in a non-sealed tub.
I used the same tub in your picture but didn't use saran wrap on the top and after 2 weeks my hatchrite dried right up and I had to replenish water over and over for the remainder of the time in the inc.
