dyi vision cages humidity question

Hey everybody,
i have 6 ball pythons that i want to take out of my rack system and put in custom vision enclosures. im gonna build 6L, 3w, 3H with plexiglass sliding doors on the front. im thinking of making it with plywood and im gonna put a few circular holes around each for vent. and led lights for viewing. i will be using flexwatt to heat the floor with a peice of tile above it. i know about the building part but i need to know if yall could tell me any problems with keeping the humidity right i have the helix and my rack stays fine so hopefully im good there but i just wanted to know if u had to do any alterations to keep humidity up b4 i start and have to start over.

I own a vision and a sly plastics (website isn't really working...) The sly has slots in the back about 1/4 wind and 5 inches long there are 10 of them the vision has a 5 inch by about 14 inch mesh section in the top. The sly holds the humidity way better. I have actually closed off 2/3 of the vision and it is better than it was to start with. I was looking at boaphile plastics enclosures and there is no additional vents in the one I saw it just vents around the doors. I'd likely router a few small slots in the back like my sly plastics has. I hope that helps!

thanks but what about the wood do it your self box i know i have to seal the wood and have heat and make sure its properly ventalated. I guess what i was asking is if anyone has ran into any type of humidity problems with a enclosure of this type

properly sealed wood will react much like plastic in fact depending on the sealer it is plastic. (epoxy) I would assume that a wood box will be very very similar to plastic if it is well encapsulated. I'd just copy a existing design why re-invent the wheel? The issue I see is heat, a UTH will need a much higher wattage as the wood will be a more difficult to heat through.

well with the heat it gonna be inside the wood just under the tile so the tile will be warm but nt contact to the tape

Good solution! I used to build boats for a living (wood/epoxy) I am sure that if you vented that same as plastic and seal the wood well on all sides. (all sides inside and out treating one side can lead to warping as one edge moves at differing rates than the other.) Good luck!

I built a wooden cage. I sandwiched the flexwatt UTH between Hardie Backer (cement board) with a piece of foil glued to it and a tile.
Once sealed, the wood holes humidity well, but the main thing I learnt is that less is more. I put sooo much ventilation in the cage I was getting less than 30% humidity. Duct taped up the entire back vent and half covered the other two and now I get humidity in the low to mid 50s
