Determine sex of an ASF rat.
Ok,
I got my trio of ASFs today for breeding ("one male", two females). Purchased personally from a pet store employee who breeds his own for snake food. So, (not surprisingly) he told me he gave me two females (one of which is currently pregnant) and what he is "pretty sure" is a male. He told me it is much harder to tell the sex of an ASF as the testicals do not "drop" like a normal rat or mouse. I know that once the female has babies I can sex them by looking for nipples on the belly/chest of the females. Can anyone help me with a way to determine if I do infact have a male within the trio? Can I compare the distance between the genital area to the tail like I would with a mouse?
FYI, I have not tried anything as of yet because I want them to settle in a bit. Although they seam fairly calm and tame, I have read to many things about aggression and biting with this species to handle them just yet.

Hi,
if you pick 1 up by the tail, you can see that on females their parts are closer.
the males are farther apart.

Yeah, you can sex them like Snakeman mentioned, the same way you do with other rodents. But what the pet shop dude told you isn't true, haha. My ASFs have very obvious giblets. Their testicals do, indeed, drop. They're kinda furrier than most rodents, but visible.
Just 0.1 normal BP, 1.0 mojave, 0.1 California King, 0.1 Saharan sand boa, ~20 hermit crabs, a Patriot crab, 5.0 rats, and a herd of mice and ASFs
