Plus i have my Imac for 3 years and doesnt have anti virus still no viruses have been found yet, but that doesnt mean you wont get one if you by a mac. I'm scared to use my hp to browse the web, I only use it for work porpose.
I prefer mac.

Re: Sony or Mac
I personally prefer macs in general, but even if you are ambivalent on that front (or prefer windows), the mac just gives you more options because you can dual boot it via bootcamp to run windows if you need/want to.

Mac all the way... you get a pc and mac with dual boot. I still use a G3 mac book for presentations and it is an 2003 version and it still works and still runs power point just fine. The PC that I had at the same time bit the dust in 2005 I think... and it was used half as much.

Re: Sony or Mac
It really depends what you're going to do with it and if you have a preference for an OS.
For me it doesn't get any better than a dell running windows xp or windows 7. That doesn't mean I don't get pissed on occasion, but I ALWAYS get pissed if I'm forced to use any mac OS.

I have a Sony VAIO I bought about a year & half ago & already have upgraded the hard drive (500 gig 7200 rpm) & OS to windows 7. I personally prefer windows because I find there are always more software options. I hate the way apple trys to box you into using their software, especially itunes. If the the Sony laptop you get has top of the line hardware especially cpu then I would go with the Sony. I'm not sure if Macs have too many choices.

Your concern about software options is moot. As I (and others) said earlier in the thread, it's now quite easy to dual boot mac and windows on all current macs. You get more software options than a windows machine with a mac because you gain access to all of the mac-only software.
I personally find iTunes to be just fine, but if you hate it for whatever reason, there are plenty of alternatives on both platforms.
As far as macs and hardware choices go, perhaps there are less options than Sony provides, but Apple usually sticks to the higher end with their hardware, and especially given that both the MacBook and MacBook Pro have been recently updated with new hardware, it's a good time to buy. (http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/ is a good resource with regard to keeping track of that.)
