Seems like around here, if it's near the water it's a cottonmouth, if it's on land it's a copperhead. Those and rattlers are the only species of snakes in Alabama to the average person...sad...

What's even more ridiculous is the idea that snakes somehow went out of their way to find and "prey" on innocent and unsuspecting humans.

Naturally not, but they were disturbed, and did flee from the impending eruption, without much regard for what was in their path--so they wound up in human occupied areas. Fer de Lance have a pretty nasty temper when something they think is dangerous wanders too close. They managed to kill 50 people and 200 animals according to reports. Everything was fleeing the slopes of the volcano.

Yeah this drives me nuts as well...
People have the worst misunderstanding when it comes to snakes and reptiles in general. I don't get why when people don't know what there talking about, they talk as if they do. This is how these misunderstandings start, from stupid people talking too much about stuff they no little about....
