Baby substrate?
I just got a baby beardie this week and im in a bit of a pickle. All the other beardies ive had have been big enough to keep on sand right away and i know you cant do that for babies. I have a 30G setup right now with a 120* basking spot on the driftwood closest to the heat lamp, tons of other driftwood to climb on, 95* at the bottom of the hotside and 80* on the "cold side". Big water dish (big enough to soak in) and another smaller water dish for salad.
I just dont know what i should use for a bottom!!! i really dont want to use paper towel, i hate how crickets can hide in it, but ugh
help?

Re: Baby substrate?
Slate or tile works nicely, all you do is take out the soiled piece, wash & scrub, dry off and place it back in the enclosure. It also keeps their nails trimmed down so you won't have to clip the nails when it's older.

Re: Baby substrate?
Ok this is a great idea given to me by Eventide a while ago and I used it for mine when I had him in a tank. Take shelf liner (I prefer the stuff with a little texture) cut it to the specifics of the bottom of the cage. Cut 2 pieces so that way you can take 1 out and clean it weekly. I typically would clean messes eeryday as it was easy...then take it out and do a super clean each week and replace it with the other while that one was drying. Make sure you use the kind with the rubber backing and that will stick to the bottom and not allow crickets to get under it.

I like the non adhesive shelf liner for all my juv's. I believe the brand I get is duck brand you can get it at walmart. Easy to clean and can be cut to fit any tank.
