    The babies are out...

Looks like it is that time of the year.....newborn baby cottonmouths are out and about I love the heavy patterning and green tails on the babies....they are not intimdating at only 7-8 inches long

Beautiful snakes and fun to photograph.

This picture would have been killer if my DOF allowed for the pits to be crisper.

    Re: The babies are out...

I was WRONG in my identification and didn't realize it until someone pointed it out to me on another forum.

    THAT IS A BABY COPPERHEAD.

This was my first copperhead sighting in Pearl River Wildlife Management Area. I had assumed it was a cottonmouth at first...just because of the location I found it in. The thought of seeing a copperhead was the farthest thing from my mind. Overlooking the embarrassment of misidentifying a common snake....the fact that I get to add another species to my long list of animals I have seen in PRWMA is wonderful. I have been going out in the area for almost 7 years now and I still cant believe this is the first time I have seen a copperhead.
