yes for the initial program for the company to make might cost a little bit but how much does it cost for them to upload it on to each hard drive while they are uploading all the other stuff? its not like they have to build a new program for each copier so the cost per unit sold gets less and less with everyone that goes out the door

    Re: PRIVATE information sale?!

Oh yea it is crazy....I too heard about this the other day. Think of Kinko.....how much info they have on their hard drives. Pretty scary!!

Off subject but a friend of mine told me when you use your debit card on one of those machines at the store that you always press cancel after the transaction. Apparently the person at the counter or behind you can somehow get to you number if you do not. It was a long involved story and I do not remember the details but ya better believe that I press cancel now.

They also say to write down those 3 numbers on the back of your credit cards and debit cards and then scratch them out. If you go to dinner and the person takes your card....they can easily write down the number and the 3 on the back and charge stuff to your card. Scammer have all kinds of tricks...ugh.

I can't speak for FedEx: Office (Kinkos) , but I work as a Xerox Specialist at Office Depot (in the Copy and Print Department). We, the associates, have no way of getting your card number. A manager can access the copier via the computer to retrieve a receipt if needed, but it only ends in the last four digits, as all receipts do. I'd also like to note that the managers cannot get your card number, either, due to the system that is used to protect against such things. When a card is swiped the information goes straight to credit processing, the information is not retained in the store or the register.

Despite popular belief, most of us retail people aren't out to get you

I am not sure why they would put large hard drives in a copy machines. The computers that operate the copiers do require space to run the operating system on the machine, as well as space to copy a scanned (not copied) document to the network for retrieval.

I cannot speak for Xerox on the matter, but there isn't a feasible way to store every single copy ever done on the machine, but depending on the space of the hard disk in the machine, it could store quite a bit.

not all credit card machines are like that, when i worked at jimmy johns our machine would print out you entire number on the main copy of the receipt and only the last 4 on the customer copy but we could go in anytime b4 the machine was closed out for the shift and hit reprint and one with the number would print out. i know one time we had to go threw and reenter every card number by hand and recharge everyone cuz the machine was connecting one day.

also think about everytime you order a pizza and you put it on your card they are writing down the number as you say it and then they even ask you to give them the 3 digit code on the back.
