    Moving food?

    Hi,

My new little guy has been eating and pooping fine. But I still have some noob questions to ask.

Since my small scale hasn't arrived yet I am still feeding the Komodo CGD - because that is mixed by volume which I can do.

Now, Lucien only seems to eat a tiny amount of it per day - I'd guesstimate it to be about a 5-7mm diameter balls worth. And the stuff molds very quickly so I decided to put less in the bottle cap as I was throwing away 98% of the mix.

But since only having a small hill of it in the middle of the milk top he seems to be eating less??

And I noticed that it was getting dripped on from some overhanging plants and moved it about 3 inches yesterday to a place that has nothing hanging over it and he didn't touch it at all last night.

Should I move it back or will he adjust and start eating it again?

I was wondering if he feels too exposed to eat it in the new location?

How large is his enclosure right now? Usually they will find their food if you move it as long as the enclosure isn't overly big. If it is, it may take him a bit to find it on his own.. If you're getting worried, you can hand feed him by putting a couple dabs of CGD on his nose for him to lick off.

    Hi,

It's still a small enclosure he is in - 18" x 12" x 11" tall. I had initially planned on turning it on its side but the doors are non-removeable so that scuppered that idea as I dislike guillotining myself at the elbows.

I forget, is he still a hatchling? If he is.. And if he seems to be getting thin, I'd move him in a small Kritter Keeper type enclosure until he reaches around 10 grams, then back into the large enclosure.

If it is molding within 24 hours your humidity might be a little high. Mine does mold much more quickly in the summer, but it shouldn't mold overnight. With a move of just a few inches he should still be able to find it. I'd give him a few nights and see if he starts eating it again. If not, maybe you can move it back and rearrange whatever is dripping in it a bit?
