Raising the temperature?

We just got a new ball python, and everything's been set up so he's pretty good to go. He has a bottom tank heater as well as a ceramic heat emitter above, both on the warm side of the tank. The temperature is only at 85 degrees though and I'd like to see it as 90. How can I raise the temperature without buying tons of expensive upgrades in lighting? Also, how can I do this without significantly lowering the humidity?

My first question is what kind of thermometers are you using? A CHE and a UTH should be more then enough heating. You should be using digital thermometers with probes. If you are using the stick on round gauge things then that is your problem. Those are notoriously inaccurate, often being up to 10* off in either direction.

What are you keeping him in? Size?

How are you measuring the temperatures? You want to know the temperature of the glass the UTH is attached to. 85 ambient is pretty good. Depending on where/how you're measuring, you may not even have a problem.

were keeping him in a 20L right now and we have a stick on on the cool side, and we have a round therm. on the other side but its not placed directly on the glass and measures the air temp.

You will want to get some new thermometers then. Those ones are very inaccurate. I would recommend getting the accurite weather station from the home depot, lowes, or walmart. It is about $12 and measures cool side, hot side with a probe, and ambient humidity. It is all you need in one unit

You want to place the probe on the glass under the substrate over the heater so you know the hottest possible temperature the snake can get to. And don't say he won't get to it, because these animals seem to do everything we think they can't or won't.
