<---- Thats Lucious..
I love em all!!
I have many snakes and little lucious. The lizards have completely different personalities and can really make you laugh. Snakes are beautiful and calming and some can make you laugh as well.
You cant ask us to decide for you. Go out and interact with the species you are interested in. Look up care sheets and ask questions. After you have experienced them and learned all about their care and husbandry, you will know which one you want.

Re: Snake and/ or lizard and why
I have both. Snakes are way less upkeep than most lizards, but lizards are more interesting in activity(IMHO). Lizards tend to eat a lot more, and monitors(large ones) need WAY more space, thus more work.
I agree though, you have to work with all of them to figure out what's best for you.

Re: Snake and/ or lizard and why
I've got geckos and want to get at least one snake at some point. Snakes IMO win huge on beauty, and of course ease of upkeep, but there's just something about the comedy (and amazing cuteness) a crested gecko can produce that is not to be underestimated. Lizards definitely exhibit more "personality." I guess I'd say that both are wonderful in their own ways.
Mountain bikes are for slow people, and reptiles are far better pets than cats & dogs!

Re: Snake and/ or lizard and why
I've raised both over the years. I'm a pet person and would own a Giraffe if I had the proper room. Lizards, snakes, llizards, snakes, I've gone back and forth many times over the years. My biggest snake commitment was 73 colubrids, my largest lizard commitment was 11 beardies, 5 Rankin, and 3 Greek Tortoises at one time.

I like both, so I have both. Just get one of either and you'll end up with both.....trust me

Re: Snake and/ or lizard and why
I've got a veritable zoo of herps. Snakes, lizards, and a frog, and not to mention that I've got hundreds, if not a thousand or more, feeder cockroaches too.
I just plain enjoy animals. The long term life-plan is to end up on a farm. Herpetoculture is just the beginning, just you wait until I have my alpaca herd. I've also got the unlikely goal of being the first person to have a captive vicuņa breeding population. Importation is extremely unlikely, but I do have some Peruvian contacts. We'll see what happens a few decades from now.

Re: Snake and/ or lizard and why
I love them all!! What that other poster stated....you will usually end up with both anyways.
Snakes to me are more calming...more relaxed...certainly easier to keep and much less room. Lizards on the other hand are ALLOT more work!! I have a skink and a beardie, and in August I will have a tegu...they take tons of time!! But also they interact a little more with you than a snake persay. But again they require more attention and much larger enclosures if you are going to do it right.
You also have to think about if you travel...with a BP I can leave for a week and all is ok. With my lizards that is not possible...I have to find sitters. Unless of course it is winter and the stars align correctly and everyone is in brumation.
