Bath time?

I've read quite a few places that BPs enjoy swimming. If I were to put my girl in the bathtub with some warm water to play around in, how deep do you make the water? Just as deep as her thickest part?

I did it once to help with a bad shed. I filled it up about a half inch deeper that the thickness of her body and I put a balled up towel in there for her that was out of the water. She actually seemed to enjoy it.

It depends on the snake. Some ball pythons are okay with water, and some are very AFRAID of water.

If you don't have a reason to soak your snake, then in my opinion, you shouldn't. There is no benefit for the snake for just randomly giving it a bath. If your snake has stuck shed or is a little backed up then a bath or soak is fine.

Now, IF you really feel the need to soak your snake, the water should be VERY SHALLOW. only a half inch to 1inch thick. These snakes are not the best swimmers (although they can swim somewhat) and they can drown in deep water.

Also, warm water to you is HOT water for the snake. The water should be lukewarm.

And just cause no one mentioned it, and you probably know too, NEVER leave a snake unattended in the tub! For ANY length of time, even a second! Even if the tub had glass doors. Just stay put, lol.

ditto with kaorte.....if they don't need it....don't do it. The only time I do a bath is if they get in a mess or a shed issue is happening. Thats it!! But if when they go blue you really up the humidity...you shouldn't even need a bath for a shed.

Sometimes I will give mine a bath if they have a FecalFest in their tubs, but usually I just wipe them down with an un-scented baby wipe if they need it...

Me and the wife feed and regularly bath the snake in the guest bathtub. Seeing we don't have guest stay nights anyway. Is this bad? we will run him in the yard at least x2 a week bath after. If his rear end is swollen tail small we run half the bottom of the tub put him in it to do his business. If it is to full then yes he will go nuts ,but loves it when we fill it up a little lower then the spine.

Bad? no. Unnecessary? yes.

This is not a dog. It does not need to be taken outside for exercise nor does it need help going to the bathroom.

Yes Kaorte is very right some bps are very afraid of water! And most keepers don't give their snakes a bath.... But some really enjoy a swim and I give my snakes a bath a day or two after feeding day just to get the mouse smell off them. If I don't my snakes are more touchy. More reclusive. After the bath they relax. I DO have one bp that hates the bath, I've tried it with her twice and she just stresses out big time so I wipe her down with a wet cloth like that op said and it seems to clean her good enouph?? But I wouldnot take mine outside to play in the grass to many feral cats and people spray weeds and stuff around here. I just can't risk it where I am. Though I can't say a snake wouldn't enjoy a romp in REAL grass lol
