I'd also lean toward Carpets as well.
Btw, Bloods don't always have a nasty temper. That rep go way back to when they were mostly imports. Many captive bred Bloods and other Short Tails are ball python tame.

Very true, high strung Bloods are tied back to WC animals. Make sure you buy CBB animals and your all set.

NOW, there are certainly seemingly more aggressive animals within the CBB population, as there are with ANY other species of Python. Now, certain mutations such as the Cherry Bomb Albinos do seem to be more aggressive, must just be a genetic thing.

Dont let it keep you from getting into these wonderful snakes.

Especially if you want one as a pet, it's good to ask the breeders about the temperaments.

only if its 100% pure, ugly as a butt Hogg Island boa

ive seen plenty of "hogg islands" that pass the 8ft mark, so make sure you are buying a pure hogg if you dont want a big boa.

Re: Pythons that stay around 8 feet?

Carpet pythons get some size on them, particularly the coastal subspecies, with jungles being a bit smaller than the coastals. Depending on sex, subspecies makeup, and general parentage, jungles, coastals, and jungle/coastal crosses will generally max out in the 7-10ft range. On some occasions, big older female coastals will break 10 foot, but I wouldn't personally let that double-digit number scare you.

Look up carpet pythons on youtube to find good examples of adults in relation to human size and you should see that they get some respectable size while still being quite managable being handled by one average sized person.

Re: Pythons that stay around 8 feet?

Since it'll be while,ya got plenty of time to research..
What do you want in a snake ? do you want something active ?
do you want slender ? Thick ? couch potato ? Colors ?
I myself love the Borneo pythons, Most are well mannered, they get thick and impressive, their not overly active..And they'll eat when fed..

Carpets, Hogg Is. and BRB would be my choices...or a nice male RTB.

Re: Pythons that stay around 8 feet?

I vote for a male red tail boa. I've got a 20 year old right now that's just around 8 feet.
    1.1 Ball Python
    1.0 King snake
    1.0 Corn snake
    1.0 Red tail boa
    2.1 Leopard Geckos
    1.0 Hingeback tortoise
    1.0 Senegal parrot
