Yipes! HELP!

I left the back door open because it's really nice outside right now...and the dog likes to be able to wander in and out at will when I can allow it....

So...anyhow....I now have a live wild bird flying around inside my house and can't seem to find the door back to the outside. Any ideas on how to gently catch it or herd it back out the door? Poor thing!

We have had that happen at work. One way is to make it as dark as possible and leave an exit i.e. door/window with lots of light coming through. They go for that instinctively. I don't know how feasible that is for you though.

I ended up just following the poor thing around (some sort of little finch...mega cute!!) so that it couldn't land peacefully anywhere and had to keep flying. Fortunately, the house isn't that big and most of the rooms had closed doors....it found its way out with some encouragement.

What's weird is the dog never barked at it once...which is odd, because she's easily excited and loves to alert me to things with her bark. She was psyched about the bird, but was very quiet as she bounced around the house after it. LOL I was only alerted to it because of some weird scuffling noises in my otherwise silent house followed quickly by the sound of Mira's galloping moose feet.

Close all doors to the room except for the exit. Turn off all lights. Give the bird time to calm down. Then take a sheet and use it to restrict the area available to the animal until it goes out. The reason for turning out the lights is to make the outside the brightest spot so he can see to retreat. I have used this method with success.
