    The first snake looks like a juvenile northern brown to me. Can't tell how long it is, but the coloring and head shape are right for the northern brown.
    My pups almost stepped on a small black racer at one of state parks yesterday. Boy was he/she angry, shaking it's little tail at us and everything. As soon as I saw it, I backed the dogs off and we stood (they sat) about 4-5 feet away and just looked for a couple minutes. He/she calmed down and when we walked away it slithered across the trail and into the woods. Pretty little thing.

    Yea the first is most definitely not a worm snake. Do a quick search for snakes of your local area and it should help a lot with IDs. The second one could be a worm snake, but I don't know the snakes in your area.
