Kill Rule Change Message from Andrew

I am really upset right now!!! I just went to the government regulations page and saw that 1994 people have made public comment. The problem is 1539 of those comments were actually made in 2008 during the NOI. That means only 455 have been made since the proposed rule was published in the federal register back in March 2010. What is even worse is that half of the 455 are from HSUS and other AR groups. That means that only about 200 members of the Reptile Nation have made comment!!! Why is no one making comment? This is really bad! USARK has been spending thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours fighting this. We need the Reptile Nation to stand up and make comment NOW! DEADLINE is Tuesday May 11, 2010!!

I have heard a lot of pissing and moaning about unfair legislation and regulation. Venting on a forum will not change one thing out there in the world! What will change things are individuals taking action... Have You Taken Action? Make public comment!!!!!

I just thought I'd say that even though I am a Canadian I have been following this issue closely. I took the time to leave a comment if it helps (probably not but you never know). I personally was shocked by the addition of the boa constricter. The sheer scale of some of the large boids demands respect from even experienced keepers. That 'joe public' is fearful is understandable. But the boas? I don't see the logic. I hope that my addition to the cause helps a touch.

I admit I have been putting it off due to its complexity, but it is only the 5th and there is still plenty of time. I have every intention of getting it done, as I have gotten all of the previous actions done, and I have been spreading the word about it as far and wide as possible.

Write up your letter answering the questions in a WordPad document. Save it.

Click on the link to go to the government page to leave comments. Andrew said you don't have to fill out the whole form, just the Name City and Zipcode. When you click to chose which agency, scroll down until you find the "Fish and Wildlife" listing. The comment box only allows 2000 characters(not words, characters) so you'll probably have to attach your letter as a document.

So it's not as bad as it looks, although it took me a total of two hours to wend through all the junk. But that's because I mistakenly saved the document in a OpenOffice document, and then I couldn't find the link on the USARK page to send the comment, then I thought I had to fill out the entire form, instead of just basics... etc etc. Yes, I'm a doofus, and I hate government sites.

It's not all that hard, so take some time and get YOUR voice heard. This is the only time Fish and Wildlife is asking for YOUR knowledge and opinions, so TELL THEM!!
