    Thermostat

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to replace my thermostat and was looking for a recommendation.

I have a four year old BP girl housed in a 4ftx1ft x2ft high tank. Just added coconut fiber today

    Anyway,
Is the Ranco still as popular as ever? What goes these days?

    Thanks

i brought a ranco at the expo 3 weeks ago for $70 it works great! I heard the helix is better but my ranco gets the job done just fine.

    Re: Thermostat

I'd done research and ended with a split decision between Ranco and Johnson.. a personal preference it seemed. The Helix seems to be an upgrade I can't yet afford however.

I'm wondering if any of this has changed since then. Is anything new out? Have prices at least gone down?

    Thanks again

    Re: Thermostat

Helix and Herpstat are the best as far as proportional thermostats. Ranco and Johnson are good direct thermostats. The difference is that the proportional thermostats have a built-in rheostat to adjust the amount of current directed to the heat source so they gently heat constantly instead of turning on and off like the Ranco and Johnson.

    Re: Thermostat

Talked about another thermostat in this thread. i bought it to test and i would think it's a good alternative if you want an on/off thermostat.

    Re: Thermostat

If your Ranco is still working, stick with it. Ranco and Johnson are basically the same thing and program the same way. Basically 2 companies making the same product. I've used both and currently have a Johnson running my room heater. My personal opinion is that the Ranco looks nicer... That's just me...
