Enclosure size?
I was wondering what the proper enclosure size is. Littlefoot is going to move from his 20 gallon tank to a tank that measures 36w x 18d x 21h. He is pretty small and could stay in the 20 gallon for a while yet. But my bearded dragon is going to move out of that bigger tank into a custom enclosure.
So what this boils down to is what is the ideal enclosure size for an adult BP?
I want to make a custom enclosure for my BP down the road a bit but figure this big tank should last a while.

Re: Enclosure size?
How big is the snake?
Also you say he can stay in the 20g awhile? Then why not leave him in it?
Dont want this to sound rude but if you take a little snake from a enclosure hes used to and feels secure in and put him in a bigger one hes likely to stress out and go off feed.

Re: Enclosure size?
That tank would work for a full grown adult. I would wait till your BP is at least 3+ feet before moving him in there. Just make sure you clutter it up with stuff. Some people keep adults in 20L tanks and 41 qt tubs. I would say keep him in the 20gal until his hides won't fit in there, then upgrade him. All snakes are different, you can move him whenever you think it's appropriate, just leave him alone for a week to acclimatize to his new enclosure. Then, as long as you don't have any feeding issues or daytime roaming issues, you will know whether or not he accepts it...

Re: Enclosure size?
I am currently keeping younger snakes in adult size cages. As long as you have alot of hides and clutter you should be okay I think. and I mean like double the normal amount.
But like others have said if he's doing well in his current setup wouldn't hurt to leave him in it. 36" is big enough for an adult BP

Re: Enclosure size?
Thank you all for your replies. He will stay in his current enclosure for now. The bearded dragon tank is not escape proof for a snake right now anyways. Thanks again for the replies.

I think it was Land before time. Littlefoot came with his name. I got him off craigslist and he was the smallest of the 3 they had so they named him Littlefoot. I decided I liked the name. I will enjoy introducing Littlefoot once he is full grown.

Re: Enclosure size?
Reminds me of a rock band in the 80's called Littlefeet. Great band.

Re: Enclosure size?
The 21" high measurement is enough to tell me that the enclosure is not suitable.
If/when you go with a custom enclosure, it should really only be about 12-15" tall. Remember, the more volume in your enclosure, the more air you have to heat and the harder it is to keep your humidity up.
