Getting Ready
As this is my first time breeding corn snakes, I'm naturally a bit nervous. I was like this last season with the ball pythons. I just like to make sure I have everything ready and correct BEFORE I get eggs. Last season I was surprised by ball python eggs and I was running around like a crazy person.
So, I checked on Zim today and she was half sitting on her egg box, half on her water dish, so when I went to lift her off her water dish, I took a look at her belly. I can see little bumps along her belly. She is spending a lot of time in her egg box now. It is about a week and a few days since she shed. She refused her last meal.
Her egg box is a little plastic container filled with damp sphagnum moss. I'm going to fire up the incubator tonight so it can settle at the right temp before I get eggs. I plan on incubating at 80-82. I will be using vermiculite to incubate.
So am I on the right track? Pictures to come when I get eggs.

Re: Getting Ready
remove the water bowl. she'll be fine without it until she lays her eggs.

Re: Getting Ready
Yup, sounds like you're doing everything right. They'll drive you nuts waiting for them to lay, so try not to think about it too much.
And I'm not sure why you'd want to remove the water bowl. I see no reason to do that.

Re: Getting Ready
I didn't remove it. She's not tipping it over or anything (for once!). She was just half laying on it. Thanks for all your help! I can't wait to get eggs! I think I'm really going to get into corn snakes more. Think there will be a charcoal male at Daytona?

Re: Getting Ready
Yeah, probably a million charcoal males.

Re: Getting Ready
cause your corn could lay eggs in the water bowl. and once the eggs are underwater, its a bye bye for the eggs. im not saying you should follow my advice or not.. but as you mention, its your 1st time breeding.
