    Re: dog shows?

No idea what APRI is, I only know a little bit about AKC shows. AKC is the same, your dog is held to breed standards.

If your doxie isn't super high quality, it can get very discouraging. It can also get pricy to show a dog, since you have travel time, site fees, show fees, etc. Since it's a female, you'll also have to worry about when she's in heat, as that can affect the coat, etc.

If it's a smoothcoat, you'll want to keep the nails properly done, the coat clean and probably carded, and of course, the dog in proper weight. If it's longcoat, you have grooming to worry about, and you'd want to either learn to do it yourself, or you'll have to find a SHOW groomer, not a pet groomer.

Hope this helped. Showing can be great fun, but it's not cheap and can get time-consuming also. Some dogs love the travel and shows, some hate it. Never know until you do it!

I show AKC I don't know much about the APRI show. I can tell you though if it anything like AKC you need a tough layer of skin it can get political and some can be rude. Just remiber to have fun and don't let others get under you skin. As far as shows go check out APRI's web site they should have more info on their shows. I have been showing my dogs for 3 years now and it can become costley and a downer also but when its all said and done the best dog always goes home with me in my eyes anyway

    Re: dog shows?

I show my dogs in AKC and UKC.

You say your Dachshund has produced puppies already - it can be difficult to show a female that has had puppies, especially if she's a smooth - unless you did a heck of a job getting her back in shape and dried out.

wolfy-hound is right - it can be very expensive and time consuming... but it can also be a lot of fun!

If she's produced champion puppies, then you can contact the folks that showed those pups and get advice from them!
