    Question about basking.

Im a new beardie owner and so do not have nearly as much experience as some of you do. I will soon be moving my little guy to his 40 gal breeder. Ive picked up some new decorations. Like a huge twisty bamboo thing which is 2 1/2 ft long and varies in hights from 8 inches to a foot. He will love it for climbing and basking. My question is this. In his current tank he has a proper desert UV bulb but in the big tank this will not put off enough heat. I have extra lamps so I figured I would need to provide him with 2 so he would have a heat lamp as well. Until his current one needs replacing. Then I will just buy a better UV bulb which puts out heat as well. Knowing certain bulbs need replacing anywhere from every 3 months to a year, can I suppliment his heat for his basking spot with a ceramic emmiter? I ask because I have one that I am not using for anything else. Will this work as long as he also has the proper UV rays?

Also can you guys tell me which bulbs are best for a beardie in a 40 gal breeder reptile tank. Can you give me the brand names? Ive looked into a few different types but they all vary in some way. Some put out no heat. Some dont last long at all etc..

    Re: Question about basking.

    Hey,

Can you post a link to the UVB bulb you use? The ONLY Bulb type uvbs that I recommend ( Or really work...) are MVBs, almost all of the others are crap.

You can find T-Rex MVBS at most reptile online stores, but the best of the best are these Mega ray bulbs,

As for the Ceramic bulb, as long as the temp is around 105 degrees any thing gos. The only thing though is that Ceramics get H-O-T.

Also, not sure if you know or not, but with taking basking temps make sure your using a Thermometer with a Probe, and not a temp gun. They will give you different temps because they are measuring different kinds of things ( Surface Temp of the basking area VS Air temp)

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat
