    First feed a success!

I just wanted to share my excitement with people who would understand. LOL!
We really weren't sure what to expect for Scarlet's first feeding with us. We were informed she was picky and hadn't ate in a while.
So approximately 2 weeks after she moved in we presented a small rat that we had available in the freezer. Worth the shot right?

Needless to say it went reaaallly well. 2.5 seconds was all it took before she was white on rice.

We weighed her before feeding, she's approximately 750g. Would a medium rat be sufficient or should I go right to large?
I know the small we buy are give or take 50g.

    Re: First feed a success!

A full grown adult ball python can be fed small rats for its whole adult life usually. A small rat is usually about 90-100g (somewhere around there). I would say a medium or larger rat are definately too big for a 750g bp. Even a small rat seems a touch bit large but that rat in the picture doesn't even look that big...

What was the weight on that feeder?

Honestly, I didn't weigh that particular feeder, but the other two in my freezer are about 25-35g. I have bought one from them that was 50g, etc. It seems to vary quite a bit.

I suppose I should clarify I'm just calling it from what I read on the package. By the sounds of it... my guess its much smaller than a real small rat

Yeah it most likely is not a small rat then. Perhaps a weanling rat.

Congrats! it is a great feeling to know that you have things right and the snake is feeing safe and secure!

Interesting, my supplier (and a few others I am still sourcing a new one) states that small is 45-84gm and medium 85-174gm. Kaorte must be getting a better deal than I am! Medium for the price of smalls! go figure!
