Unhappy I know we can't save them all...

But she's so precious. I don't think I have talked about my leo's here before. I currently have two females which are very healthy and doing great. This leo has been at this particular store since January. Not only has it not grown at all, it seems to have gotten smaller and it dropped it's tail.

I dearly want to save her but I have always read that it's hard to get a sick/malnourished pet shop animal back to health. What do you guys think? I can easily keep her in QT. I have everything I need to take care of a leo, disinfected and ready to go.

I will leave it up to you guys....I know mean. Personally I'd rather her die in my care than just wasted away and thrown into the trash can at this pet store. I just see all too often, people think they are "saving" an animal from a pet store. It dies anyway and they tell their story on the internet and get ridiculed and then the thread turns into "how you shouldn't even buy a healthy animal from a pet store. (LOL they don't even exist!)"

Re: I know we can't save them all...

Talk to the manager and see if he will either reduce the price drastically or even give it to you. It really shouldn't be out on the floor, or so I've been told by folks at my Petco and PetSmart. Oh, I don't believe them but that's what they say!
I would try to avoid paying full price, explain that it is underweight (and, obviously, tail-less) and isn't "sell-able" in it's current condition. Can't hurt to try.
In general, I think you should not buy it for the whole 'it only feeds the cycle' of the big pet store debate. If it were me though, who knows, I might just ignore my own advice and take the little fella home!

Sometimes when a animal sits in the care of a pet store for so long and starts to look sick like that they will let it go for cheap and sometimes free

I'll talk to the manager about a reduced price, though it's regular price is $25 which is a bit less than the normal going rate for leo's.

    Thanks for your input!

And unfortunately, if you end up paying for it, they'll just replace it with another that will receive the same poor care. It really sucks, but sometimes you have to just let them go.

That's sad man, pet shops don't care about their animals at all, I don't even like buying feeders from the pet shop. I have one pet shop where the woman that works there really tries to take care of all the reptiles. She even gut loads the feeder crickets. It's the only shop I will buy feeders from.

Re: I know we can't save them all...

I forgot to update this thread. I went to go purchase the leo at cost and the supplier to the store said he was concerned for the gecko and took it back to nurse it back to health. If I catch the supplier again, I'll try and find out this little girls fate.
