I'm having trouble keeping the cool end above 75 degrees F at night and it seems to work a lot better with a towel over it. Is it ok to keep a towel over the heat lamp and cage?
I wouldn't use a towel over a heat lamp. If you want to use a towel you can put it next to the lamp. Most people put foil on top of the cage. It helps keep in heat and humidity.
Since lamps shouldn't be on at night, I suggest switching to a ceramic bulb. What size tank are you using, and what size is your bp?

no i wouldent ever put somthing of any fabric on a heat lamp thats a very easy way of starting a fire. If you cant maintain that cage i reccomend switching over to a 41 qt sterilite tub one of the best cheapest safest cages! =D
