    Maybe I did miss it.

I just went to check on Akina. She has been taking a small rat once a week and the past two times I have put a male in with her, she has refused. She shed on 3/31. When I checked on her today she was looking darker and had a pinkish belly as if she were going into another shed cycle. I have not seen an ovulation at all, but maybe I missed it. Has anyone else had a female do this?

Yep. I miss most OVs. I more or less go with their behaviour and eating habits. They stop eating, they start breeding, they start eating again, they stop breeding, they shed, they stop eating, they shed, they start to get huge, they get peaked, they get very restless, they lay

I think I only saw 2 OVs this season so far but I have 2 clutches down and 2 more due very soon so I know I missed them.

Re: Maybe I did miss it.

The thing is I check each and every one of my snakes every day. I'm just baffled as to how I missed it. I'll take a picture of her right now and post it up. She doesn't look big or anything. I can still feel her follicles (4).

If this is a pre-lay shed then I'm really excited. This will hopefully be my first season producing morphs (pastels and spiders).

    Thanks for your reply!

Well I could feel her follicles as of last week when I fed. I will check her again and take some pictures. I'm cleaning her tub right now so I'll upload pics as soon as I'm done.

dont feel bad. I have out done you in missing it. I just figured that my female hadnt taken. I missed the ovulation. the pre shed. I juswt knew she has been off food for four months. I missed the swelling. I missed it all until i saw her belly up. We think she is weeks away from laying. But we dont know. because i missed it.

Re: Maybe I did miss it.

I checked her for follicles. The first one felt like it popped over my finger. The next 2 felt softer than the first and larger. The last one I barely felt. Could it be that the first one might turn out to be a slug if she does lay?

I just find it odd that she is shedding so soon after her last shed. Its barely 2 weeks since her last shed and she's already going into another one. Her belly is nice a pink and she is darker than normal.

I dont see anything that would make me think shes gravid....

Like I said, if shes still eating, and you can feel the follicles, she hasnt ovulated yet.

I too would think if you check on them every day that you would have seen an ovy.

Re: Maybe I did miss it.

Which is why I'm wondering why she is going into another shed so soon after her last one. I check on my snakes every day and I caught her ovulation last season. I can feel her follicles and she took a small rat last week. I guess I'll just have to keep trying to introduce males. She doesn't look gravid to me either. Is there any other reason she would shed so soon? She hasn't been gaining any extra weight. Her rats are usually around 60-70g.
